Jubilee: CORD Is Protecting Sugar Cartels

Members of Jubilee Alliance on Friday claimed CORD is trying to protect the sugar cartels.

Speaking in Embu town during a Full Gospel Church, Mt Kenya South region annual conference, the leaders claimed the opposition is hypocritical and insincere on its stand regarding the sugar trade deal with Uganda.

In attendance were Deputy President William Ruto, Senate Majority Leader Kithure Kindiki, Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti, Mps Cecily Mbarire and Muthomi Njuki among others

Professor Kindiki Kithure claimed he knew some of the opposition leaders behind the collapse of the local sugar industry. He alledged that the same leaders are hell-bent on shielding sugar cartels for their own benefit.

“They import sugar into the local market by repackaging to disguise the commodity,” he claimed.

He said the opposition should stop blaming the government for its effort in reducing the deficit in local production.

He lashed out at the opposition, claiming they only hijacked the debate to slander the government and gain political mileage.
