Jubilee MPs Now Criticise Government Over Corruption

A section of Jubilee leaders have now come out to criticise the government on how it is handling graft in the country.

Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando on Tuesday said that though he was a Jubilee member, he would not jubilate impunity.

The MP who had earlier asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to fire the whole Cabinet, said that he knew Kenyatta was not corrupt but he had to be told that all was not well.

Another Jubilee MP, Peter Gitau, weighed in on the corruption issue stating that ethnicity and politics were not to be involved in the fight against the vice.

“We do not want to hear that it is so and so’s community or region being targetted or being fought once an individual has been cited as having perpetuated corruption as did happen in the 1980s,” said the Mwea legislator.

Two other lawmakers from Meru County also on Tuesday asked the President to walk the talk in the fight against corruption, adding that Kenyatta should deal with any individual mentioned in graft cases regardless of their status.

“I think the Jubilee Government is not serious about corruption, as everyday there is a new scandal. This has to come to a stop if we, as a country, want to attain good economic growth,” remarked MP for Imenti North, Rahim Dawood.

The strong sentiments come at a time when the Ministry of Devolution is yet in another scam, in which extravagant purchases were allegedly made with many now calling for the resignation of Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru.

Even in the wake of the new scandal in Waiguru's office, the government has remained quiet as concerns over its commitment in fighting graft rage on.
