Jubilee Party Officials Tear-gassed After Storming Party Offices in Nakuru

Jubilee party officials tasked with managing the nominations in Nakuru county caused a dramatic scene after storming the party offices demanding their pay.

The more than 200 officials claimed that they had not been paid their dues days after the completion of the nomination exercise.

Police moved in to contain the situation and lobbed teargas to disperse the protesting officials who comprised of presiding officers and clerks.

At the time of the protests, Jubilee party leadership in the county are said to have travelled to Nairobi for the party’s National Delegates Convention.

The group camped at the Jubilee Party regional headquarters in Milimani area after failed attempts to seek an audience with party officials to demand their pay.

The officials claimed that when being hired, Jubilee party was to pay each presiding officer Sh 17000 and each clerk was to receive Sh 14000.

The angry officials accused the party of withholding their money and threatened to withdraw their support for President Uhuru Kenyatta at a time when he needs their support to win the August elections.
