Former Mungiki leader and Laikipia senatorial aspirant Maina Njenga was on Friday a disappointed man after the Jubilee Party rejected his nomination papers – killing his dreams of vying under the ruling party in the upcoming elections.
According to Mr Njenga his papers were turned down following strict instructions from President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.
A dismayed Njenga disclosed to a local daily that: “The officers said they were acting under instructions from President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto. They said the two will call me.”
At the same time, the ex-Mungiki leader's brother Maina Njoroge noted that: “He [Maina Njenga] was told that there were instructions from the party leadership not to accept them [nomination papers]."
"We think we have been denied,” added Njoroge.
In August 2016, Mr Njenga declared his political ambition stating that he was ready to unseat the incumbent Senator GG Kariuki.
"Now that the seat ... currently held by Mr GG Kariuki will be falling vacant in 2017 after his retirement, I will be ready to square it out with others who might have an interest in it, but this is something that I will announce later after consulting widely," Njenga mentioned.
During this announcement, Njenga highlighted that he was confident Kenyatta and Ruto would support him because of their friendship.
"You know that Deputy President William Ruto is one of my greatest friends. The president is also my friend and I am ready to work with them to form the next government. I will be calling them by the end of the year after consulting widely and announce my political outfit," he noted.
