Jubilee Smart Card Technology Allowed Access to IEBC Database

The Jubilee party has caused fears among opposition supporters after they announced that they would have access to the database of voters held by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

During the launch of the party’s membership recruitment, the party announced that it would use a smart card that is linked to the database of the registrar of political parties and the IEBC.

This has worried a section of Opposition supporters who are wary that the access could compromise the integrity of the electoral process.

@skmusyoka the link btw jubilee smart card in the name of nominations and IEBC raises eyebrows. It could be a smart way to steal elections.

Following the complaints, mainly on social media, the IEBC disowned the facts of the story explaining how the smart card will work, but did not expressly state the nature of their cooperation with the ruling party.

@LeonLidigu @EtalePhilip That is not our story

After the 2013 General Election, the CORD coalition went to the Supreme Court contesting President Uhuru Kenyatta’s win on among other grounds, the fact that the IEBC shared servers with the TNA party.
