Top Jubilee Leaders Clash Over CORD Protests

Top officials of The National Alliance (TNA) party on Tuesday sharply differed over a plan to hold protests to counter CORD's anti-IEBC demonstrations.

Party Chairman Johnston Sakaja and Secretary-General Onyango Oloo contradicted each other with Oloo maintaining that he would mobilise supporters to the streets while Sakaja stated that they were a sober side and would follow the right procedure to solve the Electoral body stalemate.

Addressing a press conference at the TNA offices in Nairobi, Oloo declared that the ruling coalition would not sit back as the Opposition disregarded the law, but would hold similar demonstrations to restore dignity in the country.

“I have the resolve of TNA and Jubilee to call upon our supporters to meet CORD and ODM supporters man-to-man in defence of our Constitution. If the leaders believe they have enough evidence to warrant the removal of IEBC Commissioners, they should table it for us to address the issues as a country,” he declared.

On the other hand, the Chairman maintained that Oloo's sentiments were not the position of the party, as the idea was not being supported by everyone in the coalition.

“We shall engage through institutions like Parliament that are recognised in the Constitution to solve the IEBC impasse,” the nominated MP insisted.

The legislator affirmed that he was speaking on behalf of Jubilee coalition and would not engage in any street contests.

The CORD Coalition has insisted that it would continue to hold demonstrations outside IEBC offices in Nairobi until the body's Commissioners are ejected from office.

On Tuesday, the coalition indicated that it was ready to dialogue with President Uhuru Kenyatta, civil societies, religious groups and other stakeholders to push for electoral reforms in the country.
