Ian Mbugua, commonly known as Judge Ian from his role on the popular show Tusker Project Fame (TPF), has put across a hard hitting message for Kenyan artists following a series of complaints over money paid to the entertainers by Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK).
During a dialogue forum in a popular TV show with music industry stakeholders, Ian blatantly blamed the musicians for their current predicaments.
"Our musicians perish because of lack of knowledge." The former TPF judge said.
Ian who is also a board member of Performers Rights Society of Kenya (PRISK) told the musicians that the industry had a lot of avenues where they could earn money, highlighting that they ought to stop fighting each other and embrace dialogue.
"This industry has a lot of money. The enemy is the one who is making a lot of money and making sure we do not talk. Let us seat down, all the stakeholders and give dialogue a chance." Ian stated firmly.
MCSK has been on the spot for weeks now after popular band Elani uploaded a youtube video dubbed #ElaniSpeaks exposing the unscrupulous dealings at the Society.
In the clip, Elani revealed that they had received only Sh 31,000 in 2014 even after releasing hit songs in the same year. They further indicated that after questioning the society they were given an additional Sh 300,000, a mystery they did not understand.
After the public concern by Elani, other artists came out complaining over their money collected by MCSK citing corruption at the organisation.
