Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu Makes His Nickname "Babayao" Official Name

Kabete Member of Parliament (MP) Ferdinand Waititu has made his nickname "Babayao" official and it will be used in all references including during the August elections.

Mr Waititu had submitted a document to change his name on January 13 after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced that politicians would not run for elective posts using their nicknames.

"...Ferdinand Ndungu Waititu has formally and absolutely renounced his name and opted to use Ferdinand Ndungu Waititu Babayao as his official name.

"Waititu has therefore adopted the name for all purposes and authorises and requests all persons at all times to designate, describe and address him by his assumed name..." read the notice.

"Babayao" a Swahili word for "their father" was hatched in 2008 when Waititu was campaigning for the Embakasi constituency seat. He used the phrase in references to his claims that he was the father of all city politicians.

The Kabete MP joins the list of other politicians who have chosen to officially adopt their nicknames such as Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi who made his nickname "Sonko" part of his official name and is now referred to as Mike Sonko.
