KANU Secretary General Nick Salat Sentenced to 3 Months for Defying Court Order

The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal has sentenced KANU Secretary-General Nick Salat for 3 months after the party defied a court order to repeat nominations for Fafi Constituency in Garissa County.

Mr Salat, who is famed for the now popular “tuko ndani ndani ndaaaaani kabisa” phrase was sentenced together with KANU National  Elections Board Chairman Edward Kivuvani.

The tribunal, however, gave the KANU Party officials an option of paying a Sh200,000 fine each or face the three-month jail term.

Salat and his team were arraigned in court after Fafi Parliamentary seat aspirant Salah Yakub Farah appealed the outcome of the primaries arguing that he was the winner.

The tribunal ordered a repeat of the nomination exercise but according to Mr Farah, the party outrightly defied the order and refused to redo the primaries.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on phone, the parliamentary hopeful accused the party officials of conducting a board room nomination exercise that saw them declare a winner without the democratic process.

"Despite tribunal order, KANU had no intention of doing the nominations. They cooked up the results.

"They did a boardroom nomination in a hotel in Mwingi South constituency and declared a winner there while my people were waiting at polling stations," Farah stated.
