KANU Secretary General Nick Salat Summoned for Defying Tribunal Order

KANU Secretary General Nick Salat and the party's election board have been summoned by the Political Parties Tribunal for defying an order to conduct repeat nominations for Fafi Constituency in Garissa.

The politician risks arrest and a possible 6-month jail term if he fails to honour the summons to appear before the party disputes court in Milimani by 4 pm Monday evening.

According to the disgruntled parliamentary aspirant, Mr Salah Yakub Farah, the party outrightly defied the order and refused to conduct the nomination exercise.

The parliamentary hopeful accused the party officials of conducting a board room nomination exercise that saw them declare a winner without the democratic process.

"Despite a court order, KANU had no intention of doing the nominations. They cooked up the results.

"They did a boardroom nomination in a hotel in Mwingi South constituency and declared a winner there while my people were waiting at polling stations," Farah told Kenyans.co.ke.

The politician noted that no KANU officials appeared to conduct the polls and the supporters who appeared to vote were later dismissed by the area OCPD.

Farah noted that the party had not contacted him with an explanation which prompted him to take the matter back to court.
