Two Kenya Defence Force (KDF) soldiers injured in a plane crash on Monday have died.
According to KDF spokesman Col David Obonyo the two pilots succumbed to their injuries today.
The Hughes MD-500 Defender helicopter suffered technical hitches moments before it landed at the Bar’goni military camp in Lamu, the Nation reports.
The plane is said to have crashed and burst into flames Monday evening at the National Youth Service training field.
The officers, pilot and co-pilot, were immediately rescued but sustained critical injuries.
The Star reports that the plane was returning from a reconnaissance mission in the area.
The KDF spokesman has further noted that there were two military helicopters at the Bar'goni camp. One landed safely while the other developed mechanical problems as it was landing.
