KDF Soldiers Kill Al Shabaab Fighters in Badhaadhe, Somalia

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers on Tuesday dawn launched an offensive against Somalia-based Al Shabaab militants in Badhaadhe District.

The soldiers, who are part of the African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom), are said to have been on a pacification operation before encountering the militants.

According to a statement from the Defence Ministry, the terrorists had taken over a police station and a mosque in the area forcing the soldiers to launch the ambush.

“Today at dawn, the soldiers while on routine pacification operations in the general area of Badhaadhe launched an offensive operation on Al Shabaab terrorists,” read part of the statement.

The surprise assault led to a fierce gun battle and in the ensuing exchange, the Forces overwhelmed the fighters and managed to kill seven of them.

At the same time, they recovered eight AK47 rifles and other crude ammunition including; IED cables, Al Shabaab flags, magazines, machetes and two bombs.

The soldiers noted that they would remain committed and vigilant as they relentlessly pursue the terrorists in a bid to stabilise Somalia and restore security in the region.
