Kenyans Given 24 Hour Access to Doctors Through Phone App

Kenyans will now be able to interact directly with doctors, be diagnosed quickly and be treated right from their homes or offices.

This follows the launch of a mobile phone application, aimed at getting healthcare to places where it has been inaccessible in the past, including remote areas in the country.

The app, dunned ‘Sema Doc’ is a telemedicine healthcare system run by a South African based company -Hello Doctor- in conjunction with Commercial Bank of Africa and Safaricom.

The application allows a petient to talk to a doctor at Sh60 for unlimited talk, while short messages service (SMS) are free.

People with the application on their phones will also receive free daily healthy living tips and the chance to keep a personal account through the phone for emergencies.

The application was launched yesterday by First Lady Margret Kenyatta at Serena Hotel Nairobi.

Speaking during the launch, the first lady said that the mobile application is a win-win for Kenyans, which comes as just one of he many ways that the mobile technology is changing lives.

Also present at the launch, was Safaricom's CEO Bob Collymore, Health Cabinet Secretary James Macharia and Hello Doctor's Director -Dr Michael Mol, among a host of other dignitaries and key sector players.
