Kenyatta Golf Course Academy Demolished by Government Agencies

Students of Kenyatta Golf Course Academy on Monday blocked Mbagathi road in protest after their school was destroyed by government agencies over the weekend, in a move that surprised many.

The Nairobi Regional Coordinator of Education, John Ololtuaa, has now revealed that the government made the move after establishing that the school was not registered.

It also emerged that the school was operating illegally, occupying land belonging to Kenya Railways and did not meet educational requirements.

Mr Ololtuaa further noted that the school did not have a playing ground and a section of the public also complained of a strong stench hanging in the air around the academy.

It was also noted that the location of the school next to a cliff very close to a railway line was a threat to safety.

The school moved to the area in 2014 and had employed 6 teachers who have since been rendered jobless.

Parents faulted the state for demolishing the school without notice.

One parent told journalists that "they should have told us that the school was going to be demolished so that we look for other schools for our children."

Learning has been disrupted and parents are now pondering their next move to ensure that their children complete the second term of learning.

Following the incident, two teachers and two parents were arrested on allegations that they incited the children to block Mbagathi road, exposing them to danger.
