Keriako Tobiko Directs Investigations into Claims of Cover-up in Jaguar's Accident

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko has weighed in on the ongoing controversy over the fatal road accident involving popular musician Charles Kanyi, famously known as Jaguar.

Mr Tobiko on Friday instructed the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Ndegwa Muhoro to investigate allegations of a cover-up in the incident involving Jaguar.

"I direct you to ensure thorough investigations are conducted and the resultant inquiry file forwarded to this office for perusal and appropriate directions," Tobiko part of the statement read

On Tuesday, Jaguar's Range Rover hit and killed two men who were riding on a motorcycle along the Sagana-Makutano road in Kirinyaga County.

Controversy emerged after witnesses at the scene claimed that the vehicle was being driven by a lady at the time of the incident before she exchanged seats with Jaguar.

However, the Starehe Parliamentary aspirant owned up to being behind the wheels dismissing the claims from the witnesses.

Police spokesman George Kinoti on Thursday disclosed that the musician is being probed for causing death by reckless driving adding that he would soon be arraigned in court.

“The investigation file is almost complete. The car underwent inspection on Wednesday and was released to the owner. Initial indications are that the motorcyclist was hit from behind. He will be taken to court anytime,” he affirmed.

If charged with the offence, which could attract a 10-year jail sentence, the award-winning musician could also have his driving licence cancelled.
