Kericho Governor Wants To Sue Duale For Defamation

Kericho governor Paul Chepkwony has thretened to sue the Leader of Majority in the National Assembly, Aden Dual over remarks which he terms malicious.

The governor says unless Duale apologises for his remarks that implied that Chepkwony and Bomet governor Isaac Ruto, were paid to oppose the Dps leadership in the Rift Valley region, he would take the matter to court.

In his speech during a recent visit to Borborwet, Duale said that Chepkwony and Ruto had been promised money by CORD leader Raila Odinga for opposing the Deputy President and other URP leaders.

Duale said that Odinga had told the two that he would be getting funds from the US for his referendum push, from which the two leaders would get a cut.

Chepkwony now says he was aggrieved by Duale's statements.

The Standard quoted the governor saying the statements were "false, malicious, destructive and defamatory".

In a letter to the Garissa Township MP, Chepkwony wants Duale to apologise publicly, in a newspaper with nationwide reach.

Duale is no stranger to controversial statements.

Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has in the past threatened to sue Duale over his statements.

In June, he was sued for allegedly defaming the Executive Director of Center for Human Rights and Democracy John Kennedy Wafula.

Duale is said to have issued a press statement linking Wafula as having information surrounding the death of Meshack Yebei who was a defense witness at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
