KQ Hostess Jailed for Drug Trafficking Released After 13 Years

Former Kenya Airways hostess who took the media by storm in 2002 when she was nabbed with 27 kilograms of heroin has been released from freedom.

49-year-old Priscilla Chemutai Kolongei walks out of prison, having served 13 of her 18 year prison statement.

Five years have been reduced from her sentence as a result of her good conduct.

Kolongei's literal fall from the skies and into detention began in 2002 when the plane she had been serving landed to find anti-narcotics police officers waiting, The Standard reports.

The officers had been tipped off and on searching the crew's luggage found a parcel of heroin in Kolongei's bag.

According to Citizen News, the heroin was worth Sh27 million.

A high profile trial would see the former hostess sent to prison for 18 years.

In an apparent move to make the best out of circumstances she probably never thought she would be in, Kolongei stuck to good behavior.

Her good conduct would see her be appointed as one of the prisoners' heads.

All during her stay at Langata Women's Prison, Kolongei was perhaps the inmate who received most media attention as one media house after the other featured the woman with an intriguing story of grace to grass.

She now has been given a chance to reclaim both her life and her dignity- a second chance in life which many prisoners have not been as lucky to get.

Kolongei now rejoins her child who was only five when her mother was sent to prison.
