Lawyers Seek Support for Petition to Remove CJ Mutunga

Lawyers in Mombasa county have started collecting signatures to support a petition seeking to oust Chief Justice Willy Mutunga from office and dissolve the Judicial Service Commission.

The lawyers today took to setting up a desk at Mombasa Law Courts for the exercise.

They have accused the CJ of having marginalized Mombasa during the posting of judges and magistrates, leaving the county understaffed.

Speaking to The Nation, the Law Society of Kenya Mombasa branch chairman Eric Nyongesa said that the signature collection exercise will be conducted all week.

The group's target is a minimum of 1,000 signatures to support the cause.

The lawyers plan to present the petition to the Parliamentary Committee on the Administration of Justice.

Failure to the parliament addressing the matter, the law practitioners plan to take he matter to High Court where they will file a constitutional petition.

The lawyers have warned that if the options do not bear fruit, they will organize a demonstration at the supreme court where they will stage a sit- in until the complains are addressed.
