Luo Council Chairman Recognises Uhuru

The Chairman of the Luo Council of elders on Saturday declared that he recognised Uhuru Kenyatta as the President of Kenya.

Speaking at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru where a thanksgiving service over the termination of ICC cases against 6 Kenyan leaders was taking place, Mzee Isaiah Nyandiko asked Kenyans to unite and shun tribal divisions.

"I pray for all Kenyans of all tribes to unite," Nyandiko stated as the crowd cheered him on.

However, the presence of Mzee Nyandiko at the meeting attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, received mixed reactions from a section of the public with some supporting and denouncing him in equal measures.

The Council's leadership has had its share of wrangles, as another elder referred to as Opiyo Otondi was also installed as the Chairman following the death of Riaga Omollo last year. Otondi is reportedly the one recognised by most influencial leaders in the Luo community including the Opposition Chief Raila Odinga.

Also present at the prayer rally which was organised after the termination of case against the last two suspects; Ruto and journalist Joshua Sang, were former accused persons including ex-Minister, Henry Kosgey, former Police Commissioner Hussein Ali, former Civil Service boss Francis Muthaura
