Man Sentenced to Prison for Insulting President Kenyatta Set Free

The high court has released a man sentenced to two years in prison for insulting President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The 25-year-old student from Moi University had served one year of his prison term before his appeal went through.

The accused, Allan Wadi who had pleaded guilty to the charge of posting hate messages on social media against President Kenyatta blamed the devil’s influence for committing the offense.

High Court Judge, Justice Luka Kimaru who released the Wadi, noted that at the time of conviction, the court had failed to order a mental assessment of the accused before passing judgment.

He also pointed out that Wadi was apologetic of his behavior, as he had pleaded guilty and sought forgiveness, Citizen News reports.

Having been a fourth year student when he was sent to prison, Wadi is now free to finish his studies.
