Marsabit Governor Ukur Yatani, who recently ditched ODM for Jubilee, was on Saturday night attacked and forced to flee after his car was stoned by goons at Dambalafachana area in Moyale town.
Mr Yatani escaped unhurt in the incident after his driver managed to speed off.
Condemning the attack on Monday, the governor alleged that the goons were hired by his political rival Mr Mohamud Ali, who is seeking to dethrone him.
“The attack was unfortunate and was as a result of the work of a coward, someone sensing defeat for the second time,” Mr Yatani stated.
The Governor further called on the police to start investigations and arrest the culprits who caused damage during the attack.
“Such acts can take us back to the dark times of ethnic clashes. The police should take charge and arrest the goons who caused the damage,” Mr Yatani added.
However, Mr Ali refuted the claims stating that he did not hire anyone to cause chaos during the governor's visit to Moyale.
