Marsabit Governor Ukur Yattani Ditches ODM for Jubilee

ODM leader Raila Odinga has suffered a major setback after the governor of the biggest county in Kenya defected from ODM to Jubilee.

Marsabit Governor Ukur Yattani, who had a few months ago denied reports that he had plans to ditch Odinga’s party, has now stated that he would seek re-election on the Jubilee ticket.

Yattani was also categorical that he would campaign for President Uhuru Kenyatta, ahead of the August 8 General Election.

“I will join the party through the open route. There is no need in giving warnings and threats to the president over ticket issues. We soon will know the decision of the people because they have the voice,” Yatani stated.

The soft-spoken governor is already facing competition for the Jubilee ticket but stated that he was not afraid to face off with his competitors.

Odinga has previously dismissed Yattani as a "political prostitute” over his dalliance with the ruling coalition.

Turkana follows Marsabit as the second largest county in terms of geographical size while Lamu is the smallest county in Kenya.
