Mediamax: Tribal Clip Claimed to be from Kameme FM is Fake

A company owned by founding Kenyan President Jomo Kenyatta's family has come out to warn Kenyans over a hateful-audio message purported to come from one of their radio stations.

Mediamax, through its CEO Ian Fernandes, stated that the said video was not produced or aired by any of their vernacular stations, adding that they had reported the matter to the relevant authorities.

For the past week, Mediamax has been the subject of online criticism after a presumably inciting recording from Kameme FM - one of their stations - was posted online.

In the video, an unidentified announcer calls upon members of Kikuyu heritage to register in large numbers to protect their “kingdom” that is being threatened by the other Kenyan communities.

“Without confirming the authenticity of the same, contributors on social media and some bloggers have picked up the clip and purported its origin to be Kameme FM. This clip did not originate from our studios,” Fernandes explained in a statement sent to newsrooms.

He added, “we would like to remind our esteemed listeners and advertisers that Mediamax upholds dearly the principles of media law and ethics which is an essential guide in the way we operate.”
