Millie Odhiambo's Rural Home Burnt by Protesters in Mbita

Protesters in Mbita Constituency have burnt the rural home of area Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo.

The agitated locals were protesting her victory in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations after she was declared the winner by the returning officer on Tuesday.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the legislator linked the chaos to her political rival James Akali, lamenting that he had been unleashing chaos on her during and after the nominations.

"The guy I defeated has been unleashing chaos on me since the beginning of the nomination process until now and his supporters are responsible for burning my house and this comes a day after they killed my bodyguard," Ms Odhiambo stated.

She added that no one had been hurt during the incident and that she had reported the matter to the police.

The event comes a day after her bodyguard Kennedy Okore was killed following violence during ODM nominations in Homa Bay county.

Mr Okore sustained serious injuries after he was run over by a vehicle and later succumbed to injuries at a local hospital.

On Tuesday, the Mbita MP revealed that the goons intended to intimidate her supporters to prevent them from voting but when contacted, Akali distanced himself from the accusations.
