Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has obtained a restraining order against the police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) barring them from arresting, charging and prosecuting him.
Justice Eric Ogolla stated that the order applied to any matters under investigations by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and the DCI.
The Governor moved to court on Friday seeking to stop the State from charging him with forgery of academic certificates until his case was heard.
In a letter directed to the DCI, the examinations body had alleged that Joho’s result slip that he reportedly used to gain admission to the University of Nairobi (UoN) was forged.
Joho was then summoned to the Coast Police Headquarters to record a statement where he was interrogated for close to two hours by a team of sleuths sent from Nairobi.
Sources revealed that the detectives took a sample of Joho's handwriting and signature which are to be matched with a document the Governor is said to have used for admission into UoN.
