Morans Attempt to Attack CS Nkaissery

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery was holding peace talks with warring communities in Mau Narok on Sunday when angry Morans affiliated to the Maasai community, invaded one of the gatherings.

Officers of the General Service Unit (GSU) who were deployed in the area, dispersed the morans and brought calm to the meeting which was held in Narok.

The clashes which have now lasted for three days, forced the CS to go to the area with top security officials and declared a dusk to dawn curfew in the volatile Olposimoru area to prevent further loss of lives.

“The ones who have burnt schools and houses will not sleep in their homes today…I am talking from a Government point of view so do not tell me what I know. This is now the work of the Government,” said the CS while shunning naysayers in the crowd.

Mr Nkaissery further ordered for additional personnel from the GSU to be sent to the area after one more life was lost on Sunday bringing the death toll to three since Christmas.

The ethnic clashes which were between Maasai and Kalenjin Communities, were reportedly sparked by murder of two herders at Mau Narok Forest in a suspected case of cattle rustling.

The fights brought about displacement of approximately 2000 persons who were camping at Township Primary School in Olenguroini trading centre.
