Musicians Involved in Boat Accident to Receive Sh1 Million Equipment From Uhuru

A group of musicians who were involved in a horrific accident have received a surprise gift from President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The members of Buyieta Wuod Awasi Band have been given Sh1 Million musical equipment which will be presented to them by Kenyatta when he visits Kisumu in the next two weeks.

The band also received a 10-day musical training which is said to have been facilitated by the Permanent Presidential Music Commission (PPMC).

The musicians from Bondo and Rarieda constituencies included eight survivors of a boat accident that killed nine of their colleagues in 2016.

They were lucky to receive the rare chance to be trained on music production, deejaying, performance techniques, recording, branding and sound setup by the presidential team.

During their graduation from the training session, they showcased some of the skills they had acquired including performing some of their songs.

Sports Principal Secretary Joe Okudo said the move was aimed at promoting arts and music, which the Ministry has been involved in since 2009.

“My Ministry’s mandate includes, among other responsibilities, to identify, nurture and promote music and dance talents among the youth in the country,” he stated.
