Mutahi Ngunyi's Election Poll Sparks Controversy

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi on Thursday night sparked a storm on social media following an election poll he started on his twitter handle.

In the seemingly controversial poll, Mr Ngunyi inquired from the public who they would vote for in the much-anticipated August 8 General Election.

What caught the attention of many was not the poll in itself but how he described the candidates.

The professor asked: "If ELECTIONS were held today, and you are a VICTIM of LORD of POVERTY, whom would you VOTE FOR? 1. Raila Na PANG'ANG'A, 2. Uhuru Na Kazi 3. Man with HEAD of COCONUT."

Mr Ngunyi was sharply criticised for describing CORD leader Raila Odinga in what was termed as demeaning statements.

@MutahiNgunyi How difficult was it to write "Who would you vote for" You worked so hard to make the question extremely biased.

@MutahiNgunyi I never knew you have such retrogressive thoughts of insulting https://t.co/IrfPRh9WlA can disagree without insulting.

However, many were not sure who the "Man with HEAD of COCONUT" was, with some suggesting that it could either be CORD co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka or Moses Wetangula.

Others argued that the political scientist had lost credibility in his analysis by leaning on tribal lines.

@kigen @MutahiNgunyi Tribal hatred

Out of the 5,901 online users who participated in the poll, 50% expressed that they would vote for Raila, 31% for Uhuru and 4% for the man with a "Coconut Head".

If ELECTIONS were held today, and you are a VICTIM of LORD of POVERTY, whom would you VOTE FOR?
