Muthama's Past Comments on the Odingas Now Used by Rivals in Jubilee

Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama has gained prominence for his abrasive, and sometimes seemingly personal attacks on his political rivals.

However, the habit appears to have come back to haunt him, if a recent video clip shared by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria is anything to go by.

Kuria shared Muthama’s charged speech during a thanksgiving rally held at Uhuru Park, in April 2011, that was meant to receive the then ICC suspects Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto.

At the time, Muthama was in the same camp with Kenyatta and Ruto and he made comments that ridiculed the then Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his wife Ida.

Kuria, who is a strong supporter of the Jubilee Party, appeared to be using Muthama's speech as a political weapon against the NASA team which has now brought together the Machakos Senator and the former Prime Minister.

“Ni bibi ya nani aliandamana na Mhseshimiwa Naomi Shaaban hadi Ulaya, kufika huko anakimbiza Naomi amnyang’anye makaratasi yaliyokuwa na ujumbe wa taifa? (Whose wife accompanied Hon Naomi Shaaban abroad but on getting there started chasing Naomi for the papers containing the country’s message?)” Muthama rhetorically asked as the crowd roared back ‘Raila’.

Muthama was making reference to an incident that had been reported by the Daily Nation in March 2011.

Then Gender Minister Naomi Shabaan had a disagreement with Ida, who was the wife to the country’s Prime Minister, on who would read Kenya’s speech at the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York.
