Nairobi County Governor Evans Kidero Most Preferred Gubernatorial Candidate - Opinion Poll

A new study conducted by Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA) in Nairobi County  has shown that Governor Evans Kidero is the most preferred candidate to win the county’s top seat.

According to the poll, Dr Kidero was the most preferred candidate 46%, Peter Kenneth came in second with20%, Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko was third with 16%, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru was fourth with 2% while Members of Parliament- Johnson Sakaja and Dennis Waweru closed the pack with 1% each. 11% of the sample were undecided.

In regards to the most preferred coalition, Jubilee party emerged the winner with 47% while the opposition’s National Super Alliance (NASA) came in second with 42%.

The poll further indicated that if elections were to be held today, NASA would win in Kibra, Mathare , Embakassi Central and Dagoretti North constituencies. Jubilee on the other hand would win in Kamukunji, Westlands, Embakassi South, Starehe, Dagoretti South , Roysambu and Kasarani constituencies.

TIFA’s Managing Director Mrs Maggie Ireri explained that 6 out of the 17 constituencies in Nairobi were battle grounds and that the coalition that won in the six constituency would win in the entire county.

In the battle for the 17 National Assembly seats in Nairobi, the study revealed that only 8 Members of Parliament(MPS) were likely to be re-elected having gunnered over 50% support in the poll.

According to the poll, Timothy Wanyonyi (Westlands), Simba Arati (Dagoretti North), Tom Kajwang (Ruaraka) Irshid Sumra (Embakassi South), Yussuf Hassan(Kamukunji) John Njoroge (Kasarani) Benson Mutura (Makadara) and George Theuri (Embakassi West) are the only MPs who are likely to retain their seats in Nairobi.

The poll was conducted between February 15 and 18 targeting over 3,115 respondents from across Nairobi.
