Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko’s Allies Win Jubilee Tickets

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko's gubernatorial bid has received a major boost after aspirants allied to his ‘Team Nairobi’ won most of the tickets in the recently concluded Jubilee Party nominations.

According to tallied results from Nairobi County, Senator Sonko’s camp floored his rival, Peter Kenneth's allies, especially in the parliamentary contests.

In Kamukunji, former MP Simon Mbugua, who Sonko's supporter, trounced incumbent Yusuf Hassan by garnering 16,720 votes against the latter’s 9,120.

In Embakasi West, incumbent George Theuri, who also identifies with Team Nairobi, braved all odds to win the Jubilee ticket and could be on the way to retaining his seat.

Other legislators who had teamed up to support Kenneth were floored in the primaries including John Njoroge (Kasarani), James Gakuya (Embakasi North) and John Ndirangu (Embakasi Central).

In the Senate race, Nominated MP Johnson Sakaja who had been campaigning alongside Sonko emerged the winner and could now replace the incumbent in the August General Election.

The Jubilee party Nairobi line-up is all but complete for the elections with Sonko (Governor), Sakaja (Senator) and Rachel Shebesh (Woman Representative).

From Kenneth’s camp, only Starehe’s Maina Kamanda and Shebesh secured the JP tickets.

However, Kamanda’s victory is hanging on the balance being contested by musician Charles Kanyi, alias Jaguar who is one of Sonko’s biggest allies.
