Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua Shocked After Chair He Sat on Was Thrown Out of Catholic Church in Molo

Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua was left reeling in shock after a seat donated to a church was rejected and thrown out after he sat on it during a thanksgiving mass.

Drama at the Catholic Church in Molo, Nakuru County, started after a popular businessman in the area, Joseph Kahuria, bought a high-end chair worth over Sh30,000 and donated it to the church to be used at the pulpit.

Kahuria presented the seat to the church and called Governor Kinuthia, who was in attendance, to demonstrate to the congregation that the chair was comfortable.

Governor Kinuthia proceeded to the pulpit and was asked by Kahuria to seat on the chair, a move that would infuriate the priest, Father Anthony Kinuthia.

Fr Kinuthia rejected the seat on the grounds that the act by the governor to seat on the chair was sacrilege and unacceptable for the church to use it on the pulpit.

He ordered the chair be removed from the pulpit and thrown out of the church, with the baffled congregation watching the turn of events in disbelief.

When Governor Kinuthia was asked to speak to the congregation, he shelved the issue and instead urged the worshippers to exercise tolerance, campaign peacefully and vote wisely.

He, however, reportedly called the priest after the church service and apologised over the incident. Kinuthia explained to him that he did not know it was taboo to sit on it and was not aware that the businessman would call him at the pulpit.

The businessman also stated that it was an honest mistake that was done with the best of intentions.

“All I wanted was the governor to assure the believers that the seat was very comfortable before it could be blessed. I was not aware it was going against the church rules,” said Kahuria.
