The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has released a list of Kenya's most deadly roads, ranked according to recent statistics on the total number of deaths recorded for the period between January to May 11 this year.
Top on the list is the Nairobi – Eldoret road whose death toll is at 52, closely followed by the Konza – Mtito Andei stretch where 49 people are reported to have died this year.
Nairobi – Naivasha, Mlolongo – Konza, Nairobi – Mlolongo follow closely with 48, 40 and 34 lives having been lost on the roads respectively.
Coming in at sixth position is the Giligil – Nakuru road where 20 people lost their lives over the weekend bringing the total death toll for the last five months to 28.

Mtito Andei – Voi recorded 23 deaths, Mombasa – Kilifi had 15 casualties and the Naivasha – Gilgil road was last on the list with 14 lives.
Of the total 234 tragic road accidents recorded that involved Public Service Vehicles (PSV), 108 involved buses.
The report also indicated that excessive speeding was the leading cause of the accidents followed by careless overtaking, drivers losing control of the vehicle, error of judgement, brake failure, worn-out tyres and swerving.
Drivers have been cautioned to be alert as they ply the red-zone routes.
