Nick Mwendwa Wins FKF Presidency

Nick Mwendwa has finally been announced the new Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President after he amassed a majority win of 50 votes out of 77.

Mwendwa beat his close counterpart Gor Mahia Chairman Ambrose Rachier who garnered 27 votes.

The elections which were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Kasarani Gymnasium saw Mwendwa beat other heavy weights in the football fraternity including; former AFC Leopards Chairman Semi Aina, Sammy Sholei, Gor Semelang'o and immediate former President Sam Nyamweya who didn't manage to secure any votes.

The 37 year old Kariobangi Sharks Chairman, who had conducted a spirited campaign since March 2015 under the umbrella of 'Team Change', expressed his delight in the win thanking his supporters for the victory.

In the same elections, Nakuru East Member of Parliament David Gikaria was also elected as the Federations National Executive Committee member in charge of Rift Valley.

Earlier on, immediate former FKF President Sam Nyamweya pulled out of the race moments before the elections kicked off, stating that he needed more time for his family and ailing daughter.

"My family needs me now, more than ever especially my daughter, who is bravely battling a medical condition and my businesses demand for my greater attention than before," he said.

Nyamweya further claimed that he had quit football matters after consulting from various stakeholders due to his love for the game.

"I have made this decision out of love for the game, the passion and appreciation that no good leader should be pushed to give up power and that; while I may still possess the energy and drive to lead FKF, there may be others with fresh vigour and charisma to take over and my input would be much more relevant in alternative spheres of service," he added.
