Why Sam Nyamweya Pulled Out of FKF Presidential Race

Immediate former Football Kenya Federation (FKF)President Sam Nyamweya, has withdrawn from the body's presidential elections minutes before the polls kicked off at the Kasarani gymnasium.

In his final speech, Nyamweya who has been the federation's boss since 2011, announced that he had quit active football matters to create more time for his family and ailing daughter.

"My family needs me now, more than ever especially my daughter, who is bravely battling a medical condition and my businesses demand for my greater attention than before," he said.

Nyamweya revealed that his decision to leave the federation came after serious consultations with his family but promised to avail his advice to the newly elected federation officials.

"Through deep personal reflection, consultation with my family, friends and stakeholders of the beautiful game have led me to making this decision to focus on serving my country in other capacities yet I will be available to offer my support and advice to those that I will be handing over the mantle to," Nyamweya stated in his speech.

Nyamweya further pointed out his love for the game stating: "I have made this decision out of love for the game, the passion and appreciation that no good leader should be pushed to give up power and that; while I may still possess the energy and drive to lead FKF, there may be others with fresh vigour and charisma to take over and my input would be much more relevant in alternative spheres of service. "

The FKF elections are slated to be held on Wednesday afternoon where the other remaining contestants will square it out on the ballot.
