Obituary Message of Veteran Golfer, Charles Farrar, Gets the Attention of Many

A peculiar obituary message on the Daily Nation newspaper has caught the attention of a section of the public.

The death announcement of veteran golfer Charles Farrar, advertised on the local daily was jotted in an unconventional way - humorous yet informal manner sharply contrasting the usual mournful and despondent way Kenyans relay death messages.

The notice recorded by his close family and friends reads: "David. Justin, James and Jessica are very sad to announce the death of Charles on Monday 2 January 2017 after a long illness borne with typical fortitude and humour."

Following his love for golf, the obituary interestingly continued noting that: "Charles and his beloved Pat will now be creating their usual mischief and mayhem at the ultimate Nineteenth Hole."

The message further points out that Farrar had found a second home at MP Shah hospital where he was admitted for six months.

Instead of born on July 5, 1952, and died on January 2, 2017, the announcement reads "weighed out" July 5, 1952, and "weighed in" January 2, 2017.

Farrar, who was Kenya national coach from 2007 to 2013, and 2015, was pronounced dead on Monday.

His brother David stated: “He has been ailing for the last six months with a liver failure that also affected his kidneys. He finally took a final bow and let him rest in peace since he has suffered for some time now.”

The 64-year old is the man behind the Golf Talent Foundation and Junior Golf Foundation that produced some of Kenya’s finest golfers.

"The Junior Golf Foundation and its Trustees mourns the loss of a great coach and mentor of the golfing fraternity. Charles played a vital impact steering the game of Golf in the country and he will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace," Junior Golf Foundation mourned.
