ODM Declines to Extend Application Deadline for Aspirants

The Orange Democratic Party (ODM) has warned all aspirants that it will not extend the deadline for those seeking the party's ticket for the 2017 General Election.

Through the National Elections Board (NEB) chairperson Judy Paremo, the party maintained that the Saturday, December 31, date would remain unchanged despite the high numbers turning up at its headquarters.

According to Paremo, majority of the aspirants had already registered with the party for the past two months.

“We are happy with the progress of the applications, but the deadline remains December 31. Many people are streaming into our headquarters. It is important to note that we will not extend the deadline,” she affirmed.

She further cautioned the party members from engaging in chaotic campaigns adding that those found guilty of violence would suffer heavily.

“We urge contestants to adhere to the code they have signed and returned together with nomination papers. We expect them to conduct peaceful nominations as punishment for violent ones will be too painful,” she stated.

Ms Paremo noted that many of those seeking tickets were interested in the Member of County Assembly (MCA) position adding that NEB would conduct proper vetting before revealing the final list of successful applicants.

The Orange party has been registering candidates who will square it out at the nominations which are set to take place early next year.

It ordered presidential aspirants to pay Sh1 Million, Sh500,000 (governor), Sh250,000 (senator, MP) and Sh25,000 (MCA) to secure its ticket.
