ODM Dispute & Appeals Tribunal Nullifies Nomination Results for Nyali Parliamentary Seat

ODM Dispute & Appeals Tribunal has nullified the nomination results for Nyali parliamentary seat after indicating that the elections were not conducted in a free and fair manner.

This followed an appeal by former KTN journalist Mohammed Ali to the National Election Board to cancel the results after he lost to his bitter rival Said Abdallah in the exercise that was conducted on Saturday.

The Tribunal observed that the exercise was marred by irregularities including the late opening of polling stations, voter intimidation and lack of a credible register.

The body, therefore, ruled that the party would reconsider the process of selecting a candidate for the seat.

Mr Ali had previously indicated that the exercise was not transparent and not credible claiming that most of his supporters were not allowed to vote.

He had also accused Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho of paying supporters not to vote for him and instead back Abdallah who is the Governor's cousin.

"The entire Joho family were walking around making sure they are paying off voters to vote against me. I have video evidence and picture evidence," he divulged.

According to Ali, the elections were being held in only three polling stations which were Abdallah's strongholds.
