Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Election Board (NEB) Upholds Migori Governor Okoth Obado's Win

Chaos erupted in Migori County after angry youth took to the streets to protest a move by ODM's National Election Board (NEB) to declare Governor Okoth Obado as the winner of the gubernatorial primaries conducted last week.

The youth, while chanting anti-ODM slogans contested the decision claiming that his rival, former Minister Ochilo Ayacko, won the nominations.

The residents accused the party’s leadership of meddling with the election and imposing candidates against their wish.

They ranted and called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to tour and campaign in the county alleging that they have been disenfranchised by ODM.

A three-man team upheld the nomination of Obado for the county’s gubernatorial race on Tuesday after Ayacko contested the outcome citing massive electoral irregularities.

NEB Chairperson, Judith Pareno, stated that the report by the team had recommended the upholding of the initial results that had initially declared Governor Obado the winner.

“This decision was made after the Board considered the report by the three-man team that was sent to the county last week to investigate mishandling of gubernatorial nomination results,” Pareno added.

Ayacko had contested the results announced by County Returning Officer, Samson Olala, placing Obado as the winner with 110,142.
