Pastor Kanyari Moves to Court After Freeze on His Multimillion Bank Account

Controversial pastor and self-proclaimed prophet Victor Kanyari has moved to court in a bid to suspend a freeze on his personal bank account.

Kanyari wants the High Court to reverse orders issued by a magistrate, freezing his personal account that is under investigation over alleged fake miracles.

In his suit, the pastor has named the Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro, whose office sought the orders, and the magistrate who issued the orders, as the respondents.

The wealthy pastor, who was the subject of a television expose in 2013, stated that his account has millions of shillings.

"The orders freezing the account were unreasonably given and have caused me irreparable loss and suffering," the pastor states in an affidavit.

The freeze was part of a case that started after members of the public complained to the police that they had been duped by the smooth-talking pastor.

Through investigator Boaz Ogaga, the DCI sought orders freezing Kanyari’s bank accounts as well as cash transfer documents relating to that account.

The magistrate agreed with the DCI and directed that Kanyari's account be frozen.

However, Kanyari has opposed the directive, stating that the investigators did not have evidence that he had committed any offence.

"The averments made against me were merely allegations that do not point to any wrong doing," Kanyari replied in an affidavit filed at the High Court.
