Interior and Coordination Cabinet Secretary (CS) Joseph Nkaissery has unveiled new police helicopters that arrived in the country on Wednesday.
The choppers landed at the Wilson Airport where Nkaissery, officials from the National Police Service (NPS) and a team of Recce Squad officers received them.
Upon touching down, CS Nkaissery took time to sample and familiarise himself with the capabilities of the new machines which he said would be used to enhance security across the country.
The Minister posted photos while inside the planes but didn't divulge on the exact number of helicopters that the government had acquired.
An earlier report by the Nation had indicated that the 15-seater helicopters were of AW139 model manufactured in Italy and had been purchased at a cost of Sh683 Million.
NPS Airwing Director Colonel Rogers Mbithi, had indicated that another two MI-17 helicopters belonging to the department were undergoing enhancement and would also arrive in the country to boost capability and mobility of the police.
The new choppers were bought a few months after President Uhuru Kenyatta promised to equip the police force with new state-of-the-art armoured vehicles and helicopters.
In February, the Head of State honoured his promise after commissioning more than 30 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) at the General Service Unit headquarters where he indicated that the planes would arrive before June.
