PHOTOS: Raila Causes Standoff at Police Station

Opposition leader Raila Odinga, accompanied by supporters, on Friday morning stormed a police station in Malindi to protest the arrest of a local Member of County Assembly (MCA).

The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader and co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka, caused a standoff at the police station where Lunga Lunga MCA Hassan Pojjo was being detained since Thursday night.

Pojjo had been apprehended for allegedly committing an undisclosed election crime in Malindi, claims that the CORD leadership dismissed, claiming that the Jubilee Coalition of orchestrating the arrest.

"We know this is an excuse. Jubilee government knows they are losing the Malindi seat so they want to engage in sideshows. We have no reason to rig election we have already won," responded Raila.

“After sensing defeat, Jubilee has now resorted to using intimidation tactics by arresting one of the prominent campaigner on false and fabricated allegations without any proof at all,” stated Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.

Malindi OCPD David Kerina, has since confirmed the release of Mr Pojjo following tension that was building up among the protesting supporters at the police station.

The CORD and Jubilee camps have intensified campaigns in Malindi, drumming support for their candidates in the by-election slated for March 7. The seat fell vacant after former Member of Parliament Dan Kazungu was appointed to the cabinet.
