Police Officers Deployed in CORD's Strongholds to Avert Possible Chaos

More police officers have been deployed in CORD's strongholds after intelligence reports indicated that chaos could erupt over the controversial election law that was passed in parliament by Jubilee senators.

The move comes after Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery, instructed regional police coordinators to be extra vigilant and stop any violent protests.

Speaking on the matter, Nyanza regional police coordinator Willy Lugusa, divulged that police would not interfere with peaceful demonstrators but would deal with those that disrupted businesses.

"Our forces have been highly mobilised to go on beat patrols. They are expected to gather more intelligence reports and update the security agencies promptly.”

"We will only deal with those who will destroy public property or become a nuisance to public businesses or traffic flow in and out of towns," Mr Lugusa said.

Police will be on the look out in the following areas; Nyanza, Western, Coast, Eastern and parts of North Eastern, which are perceived to be CORD strongholds.

This comes even after the Opposition called off its nationwide protests, initially planned for January 4, to allow the senate to debate on the Bill, which was passed on Thursday.

Meanwhile, CORD has called for an urgent meeting with all its party members slated for next week on Wednesday to discuss the way forward.
