Police: Why We Have Not Investigated Who Hit Raila's Car

CORD leader Raila Odinga is hindering investigations into determining what hit his car during Monday's demonstrations against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), police have said.

Nairobi County Police Commander Japheth Koome on Wednesday confirmed  that Raila was yet to make any formal complaint with the authorities following claims that his car was hit by a bullet during the Opposition protest.

Odinga had urged the police to investigate the matter after his car's windscreen was left with a dent, despite his spokesperson Dennis Onyango earlier claiming that a bullet was used.

Koome maintained that no bullet was used during the demonstrations that were marred by allegations of police brutality towards protestors.

“There has been no report at all and we did not use live ammunition during the demonstration. Mr Odinga has not submitted his car for any ballistic examinations at all,” Koome is quoted by the Nation.

After the incident, Odinga said that he could not conclusively verify the object that hit his car as he was not inside at the time it happened.

However, some Opposition leaders claimed that anti-riot police officers used live bullets to disperse protestors when the demonstrations turned chaotic.
