Raila Explains Who Hit His Car

CORD coalition leader Raila Odinga now says he can't conclusively tell whether his car was hit by a stone or bullet as widely claimed.

Mr Odinga stated that he would have to wait for investigations to ascertain how his vehicle's windscreen got shattered during Monday's anti-IEBC protests in Nairobi.

The Opposition leader's sentiments differ with those of his counterpart Moses Wetangula and his (Raila) spokesman Dennis Onyango, who stated outrightly that the car was hit by a bullet fired by anti-riot police as the protest heightened.

According to a Standard report, Odinga further stated that he was not in his car when the incident happened.

On his part, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet dismissed the claims that the former Prime Minister's vehicle was shot.

“I am not aware officers there used live bullets. They were well controlled but we will know if it happened and who did it,” Boinnet said when asked if his officers had fired live bullets at protesters.

Despite the fierce clash with the authorities, Raila affirmed they would not relent in their bid to have the current electoral body disbanded.

"Despite the use of unwarranted force by the police, our constitutionally guaranteed and peaceful pickets shall continue next Monday and every Monday thereafter until the IEBC is reconstituted," Odinga's statement read in part.

Meanwhile, police have been faulted for using excessive force to repulse protestors during CORD's demonstrations against the IEBC.

Various scenes of police brutally assaulting protestors were captured in photos and videos that have been widely shared on social media.
