Political Analyst Daisy Maritim Warns DP Ruto Against Kenyatta, Moi Families

An exclusive meeting presided over by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has been linked to the hostility between Deputy President William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

A keen observer and political analyst noted that Mrs Kenyatta agreed to be the chief guest at a lunch meeting organised by Senator Moi's wife Zahra, as a well-wishing celebration for Foreign Affairs Secretary Amina Mohamed.

Interestingly, Zahra did not extend an invite to Ruto’s wife Rachael, even though the event held at Runda's Lord Errol Restaurant was meant for women in influential places including wives of top politicians, female politicians, judges, and business leaders.

According to Daisy Maritim, a political scientist at Prof Mutahi Ngunyi’s firm - The Consulting House - the Runda lunch was a reflection of how political dynasties work in Kenya.

The political analyst stated that Rachel’s omission could not have been accidental given the huge role played by the DP in pushing for Ms Momamed’s bid for the AU Commission Chairperson.

“Unlike Raila Odinga, Uhuru Kenyatta, Musalia Mudavadi and Gideon Moi whose fathers were political kings, William Ruto’s only royal relative is Jesus Christ… In sum, dynasties are jealous institutions. And Ruto is a disruption to their elegance. This is why his wife did not qualify for an invitation to this ‘Boston Tea Party’. She lacks the pedigree,” Maritim opined.

She added that the fact that Margaret's lunch coincided with former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta's meeting with  ex-President Daniel arap Moi was a message from the Kenyatta and Moi families on their disdain for Ruto.

"Your Excellency William Ruto; be wary. Dynasties are united by a bond that is stronger than tribe: Class. In case you find my assertions hard to swallow, consider the old saying that goes: ‘When smoke fills your eyes, there is a fire blazing nearby’. Presently, your eyes should be stinging with smoke," Maritim concluded.
