Presidency Requests Sh1.5 Billion for Refurbishment of State Lodges, Offices and Residences

Taxpayers will this year be footing a Sh1.5 Billion budget for the Presidency to refurbish offices and state residences across the country.

In the 2017/2018 budget proposal, the government has sought Sh200 Million to construct a perimeter wall at Nakuru State House, Sh43 Million to refurbish buildings at State House Nairobi and Sh10 Million for Mombasa State House.

Another perimeter wall will be put up around Eldoret State Lodge (Sh18 Million), while Sh10 Million will be used to refurbish President Uhuru Kenyatta’s favourite getaway – Sagana State Lodge.

Sh5 million has been set aside to cater for the rehabilitation of the presidential dais and to build a septic tank at Kakamega State Lodge, one of the rarely used residences.

The Deputy President’s official residence in Mombasa will also get a generous Sh30 Million upgrade. An additional Sh42 Million has been set aside for the refurbishment of the DP's Nairobi office, Harambee House Annex.

The DP’s office has also raised eyebrows after it proposed to purchase an adjacent empty piece of land for Sh1 Billion, supposedly to enhance security.

This is in spite of the fact that the entire land and building where the DP’s office stands was bought for Sh700 Million in 2010.
