President Uhurru Kenyatta joined Kenyans in celebrating 52 years of self rule at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi where he announced that an anti radicalization program will soon be rolled out in the country.
The program will focus on youths who are the likely target of terror groups.
In his speech, the president said that despite empowering the national intelligence, criminal investigation institutions, and the defense forces, the country still faces a major challenge in ensuring that the youth do not fall prey to the terror groups.
“But we face a new kind of enemy, against whom conventional methods will not work. This enemy is a radicalized young man or woman who appears innocent but is devoted to death, division and destruction. He has been misled to believe that he is doing God’s work by killing those of different faiths” he said
He added that the program will soon be implemented by the national and county governments, civil-society groups, as well as faith based leaders.
At the same event, the president reiterated his government's stand towards fighting corruption saying that the government has a framework to ensure integrity and prevent corruption in public service.
