President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday arrived in South Africa for the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which is meant to enhance co-operation between the two parties and cement their partnerships. This is the third international trip President Kenyatta has made in the past one week.
The President, who travelled with his daughter Ngina Kenyatta, first set out to Malta, Mediterranean Island on Friday, immediately after bidding Pope Francis goodbye.
The travels have sparked reactions from Kenyans across various internet platforms who urged him to “visit Kenya too” as he toured the world. Others questioned why he had gone for the trips with his daughter yet they were official.
Some Kenyans further compared him to newly elected Tanzanian President John Pombe Maghufuli, who has transformed the presidency and made radical changes including scraping off foreign trips for members of Parliament.
In Malta, Kenyatta attended the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) which sought to discuss ways of solving emerging global challenges, deliberations on climate change, youth empowerment, gender equality and human rights.
Upon the conclusion of the summit, he set out to Paris on Sunday to attend the 2015 Climate Change Summit, whose aim was to find solutions to the current climate change crisis, before again leaving for South Africa.
Here are some of the reactions from Kenyans:
