President Uhuru Meets KQ Chairman Michael Joseph Over Recovery Strategy

President Uhuru Kenyatta has now revealed that there is a bold plan to reorganise the operations of Kenya’s National carrier – Kenya Airways (KQ).

On Wednesday, President Kenyatta held a meeting with KQ board Chairman Michael Joseph where he was briefed on the progress of the process of revamping the company that has been suffering huge losses.

Kenyatta directed Joseph to expedite the reorganisation process to align with the President’s goal of making Nairobi a regional aviation hub.

“President Kenyatta pledged to support the board’s initiatives noting that Kenya Airways is key to Government’s efforts of making Nairobi an African aviation hub,” read a press statement issued after the meeting held at State House Mombasa.

The KQ Chair also updated the President on the current process of recruiting a new chief executive as well as other initiatives aimed at strengthening the airline.

Last year, Transport CS James Macharia announced a turnaround strategy for the struggling airline.

Part of the strategy involved adjustments in the company management with former board Chairman Dennis Awori being replaced with the former Safaricom Executive.

The current CEO Mbuvi Ngunze is expected to exit this month.
